Personal

Outside of work, Jenna enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She is training her canine pal to become a therapy dog. She practices mindfulness meditation, believing her commitment to the practice contributes to her own well-being and also allows her to best serve the clients with whom she works.

Education and Training

Dr. Bemis studied Psychology and Philosophy at the University of Minnesota for her undergraduate degree, graduating with Summa cum Laude designation. She then pursued a PhD at the UMN in a top-ranked American Psychological Association (APA) Accredited Counseling Psychology Doctoral Program. She secured a competitive internship at the Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN for her capstone clinical training year.

In her quest to develop a high level of competence in her work as a practitioner, she has had the opportunity to get training directly from innovators of several gold-standard treatment approaches, including Marsha Linehan (Dialectical Behavior Therapy), Edna Foa (Prolonged Exposure), Kathleen Chard (Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD), Candice Monson (Cognitive-Behavioral Conjoint Therapy for PTSD), and Stephen Hayes (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy). She continually develops new skills and expands into clinically proven approaches. She attended an intensive training in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction with nationally renowned Jon Kabat-Zinn in early 2013 and will continue in training under this approach in order to more fully expand her mindfulness-based practice activities.
